I accepted my invitation to explore the yoga that is within all of us relatively later in life than most. Jonathan Monks and Yogamonks extended this invitation to me. My experiences have shown me the true sense of spirit that is uncovered through form. This is the essence of Yogamonks. The utter stillness within immediately preceding movement. The place where nothing occurs and yet everything originates. Also that the teacher and the teaching are within all of us.
Having studied ballet as a child and teenager at the Royal Academy of Dancing reaching a level of Elementary and at the Royal Ballet as a Junior Associate for four years – I have always been drawn to movement that flowed . However, I always had a subconscious prodding that there was an inflexible rigidity in its approach – even though I loved the art form. In the ensuing years I enjoyed many active pastimes ranging from the gym, the swimming pool and ice-rink. I married and spent the next period of my life bringing up my family and enjoyed watching them enjoy the same sort of activities I had. I continued to exercise – fitting it in my ‘busy’ life all the while trying to find a ‘cure’ for my ongoing migraines.
Having been introduced to Jonathan Monks I have spent several years studying alongside him the concepts, philosophies and practises synonymous to Yogamonks. I felt very early on these concepts had lay fast asleep inside me and I was being shaken. Under his tutelage I have gained a Hatha Teacher Training qualification with the BSY. And am now privileged to be regarded as one of his teachers. There is no pre requisite to a Yogamonks practise – only an open invitation to the space that exists at the point of origin via the organic energetic pathways in the body culminating in a vinyasa flow practise.
Among the many traditional postures there are considerable innovative postures that Jonathan has derived from his constant study and I am excited to bring these to my classes – breaking them down in the way that I feel them . The classes are your classes and any intention when coming to guide you through a class is as a tangible focal point for you to explore and feel the creations Yogamonks has evolved and refined, which imposes nothing either on the body or the spirit – allowing you the opportunity to explore space, truth, and energetic spiralling which will loosen and untangle the mind allowing consciousness, awareness and clarity to come through the movement we flow through via the ‘form’ which holds us together – these pathways are the key we use to show us how the practice, through softness, allows us to feel not only the spacial awareness available but also gain a strong agile and flexible body that will function more efficiently at whatever age we are.

The sprouting of awareness and truth is not dissimilar to a spring bulb as it pushes its way through the earth its planted in – pushing through the earth may be the hardest thing it ever does – to realise the freedom and beauty it breathes as it shows itself for the first time in all its fragrance and colour.
Providence gives me the opportunity to see that which has always been there to see – I hope you are able to see more.
