The aim of this method is to help the student clarify ‘relationship’. Drawing upon the principals of Yang style Tai Chi as taught by Master Mark Raudva within the lineage of Dr Chi Chiang Tao and Dr John Kells, I invite students to explore their relationship to the earth. The primary principal of this is ‘letting go’ then giving the floor everything non-essential so you are left standing with only your essential self.
I then draw upon my direct experiences from practicing the teachings of Kriyaji. From her teaching comes knowledge and experience, one aspect of this is correct breath practice, which brings about within this method the union between breath and movement.
Within the middle of Earth and Sky (breath) is the body. From the Teachings of Ida Rolf and all those followers of fascia inspired by her, comes the knowledge and exploration of internal connections. One aspect of this is the knowledge that we are expansive beings, not contractive. With this knowledge, the Yogamonks method explores practices, which facilitate an ability to move in an expansive grace.
So we have three relationships explored within one practice. We have our relationship to the Earth, to the air within and around us, and our relationship to our own body.
The method encourages us to explore these three relationships to not only see others and our surroundings more clearly, but seeing how we are perceived in our reflection back from our surroundings, we see clearly who we are.
Ultimately, seeing, then accepting who we are is all we can do truly do. After that all we can do is respond to life as sincerely as we can by being exactly who we are.
Practically, the method is yoga, a union of many sources.
The practice will vary from individual teachers and practitioners, but the principals are the union, which join this into an original yet valid form of Yoga.
